That was last night, in front of a totally ecstatic crowd, Pete Doherty and Carl Barat singing from the same mike again, The Libertines reformed and totally rocking the place, under the watchful eyes of Amy winehouse. Great emotion, totally made up for a horrible weather and a challenging lighting

Jean-Michel Manson, P!nk and other updates
Saturday, December 19th, 2009This month saw Marilyn Manson play with fingertip lasers under a sea of smoke at Brixton Academy, a grand circus show by P!NK on her Funhouse tour at the O2 Arena, Mars Volta in great shape but with a ridiculous (release) form (cf previous post), a press conference with Rihanna announcing her UK arena tour 2010 and last night The Raveonettes supported at Islington Academy by ex- Hope Of The States, The Nothwestern. A near miss with Them Crooked Vultures, the supergroup with Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones and Josh Homme, which I refused to shoot eventually due to a non negotiable ridiculous form, again, third time this month. The release was word for word the same as for Mars Volta, grabbing rights throughout the Universe and etc.
Ever Fallen in the dark?
Friday, June 12th, 2009Originally lined up for a metal night shooting Faith No More in Brixton, it turned out they were not accrediting photographers so I inherited another pretty cool show to go to: the Buzzcocks! Good thing the overground wasn’t on strike and even though it took me a while I was on time at the Forum although I missed John Cooper Clarke opening for this MOJO Honours awards show. Again lucky no beer (or cider) reached my camera when The Fall started their set, a reminiscence from a few years ago when I shot them and someone emptied 2 pints, one by one, on my head as soon as the show started, nice. But what was common to last time was the complete lack of lighting, except the red/blue darkish lighting. Is it me or while camera ISO’s get higher gigs get darker? Grumpy Mark E. Smith was walking around the stage, playing with his musicians’ amps and fiddling with his 2 or 3 mikes, loosing them here and there on his path. Depspite the light that was a pretty good set really, hey I even saw MES smile, when he exchanged a look with his wife Elena, on the synths
.
Then The Buzzcocks ran onstage and Steve Diggle never stopped jumping around and striking punk rock poses his Rickenbacker high in the air for a good explosive set.
… and took me ages to get back home.
Some more cult punkrockers tomorrow night, stay tuned!
Just a sample, again
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008Amazing how the time goes by fast when I’m trying to make sense of all this code. I sort of fixed the blog on IE but it still doesn’t show on IE as it does on Firefox. How frustrating is that, why aren’t these browsers all compatible? Well at least it works.
So the programming did not leave much time for editing so here is just a teaser with this band that used to be my number one in my ‘grunge’ period in the early 90s. Glad to see it still gives the kids some stage diving inspiration.
Although nothing as spectacular as Nashville Pussy’s Blaine Cartwright’s jump into the crowd after a full on cover of ‘Ace of Spades’ with the Reverend Horton Heat, that’s 2 sets to come very soon!
Blaine Cartwright (Nashville Pussy) - Astoria 2 - 6 August 2008
A step towards catching up with the sets…
Sunday, August 10th, 2008…but not catching up with sleep yet. Here are a few sets I meant to put online sooner, a very intense performance from Oxbow at Camden Underworld on July 15th, with a support from Harvey Milk.
And the crazy Butthole Surfers with their original 1980’s lineup playing a show in London for the first time in years at the Forum on July 26th 2008.
January 2008!
Tuesday, January 8th, 2008Happy 2008, before starting posting the new shots I’ll try to post a few sets from 2007 that I didn’t have time to put online. I start with The Damned at the London Forum, for the Texas Chainsaw Travelling Horror Picture Show.
followed by The Chemical Brothers at Brixton Academy,
a promo shoot with Fire Fall Down,
a rather dark gig of The Horrors at Brixton Academy supporting The Jesus And Mary Chain,
press photos for Wajid Yaseen’s Ear Cinema, a performance of sights and sounds at ICA.
